The Central Alabama District FFA Officers conducted a leadership workshop for chapter officers within the district recently.

They presented sessions on what your duties are for you position, how to develop a strong FFA chapter, why parliamentary procedure is important for you chapter, and covered at least six other areas.

Approximately 65 FFA members from the district were present to learn the skills that they could take back to help their chapter.

Five members from Billingsley were present to learn these skills, as well as to get to know FFA members from across the district.

Those attending from the Billingsley FFA Chapter were: Hannah Horton, President; Lori Davis, Vice President; Brittany Shook, Treasurer; Scott Crocker, Reporter; and Corey Smitherman, Sentinel. Clayton Spencer, their FFA advisor, was also present.

He serves as a member of the Alabama FFA Advisory Committee from the Central Alabama FFA District, along with Keith Adair of the Montevallo FFA Chapter.

When the workshop was completed, an FFA quiz was given to two FFA members from each chapter — questions such as what does E.M. of E.M. Tiffany stand for, how much money must be earned by the FFA Member before earning their State FFA Degree, as well as your American FFA Degree, and many others.

It came down to Lori Davis of Billingsley and a young lady from the Shelby County FFA Chapter in the finals.

After several final rounds, (longest in a long time) Lori Davis from The Billingsley FFA won first place, and her prize was an MP3 player.

The Billingsley FFA Officers have already held at least two chapter officers meeting to develop plans that they hope to carry our this year. They will also be placing an agricultural fair booth in the Alabama National Fair in Montgomery this fall.

They are developing plans on that, at this time. They hope to top their second place booth finish from last year, which was titled, “How to Make Biodiesel From Used Cooking Oil.”
