Myrtle Crumpton Hayes

Myrtle Crumpton Hayes, 98, of Randolph died Sunday, March 18.  She was the wife of the late Audie Reece Hayes of Randolph. She and her sweetheart were married on Saturday, August 24, 1940.
She was born on Friday, April 25, 1919, the daughter of the late Archie Crumpton and Blonnie Rasberry Crumpton. She was preceded in death by sisters, Gladys C. Barrow and infant Ruby Athilean Crumpton; brothers, Larkin Crumpton and R.C. Jackson Crumpton; and son-in-law, Earl Huett.  She is survived by her daughters Reba (Tommy) Tucker of Randolph, AL and Wanda (Willie) Stinson of Georgiana, AL; grandchildren John (Jenny) Huett, Bethany Marler and Rachel (Chris) Cleckley; great grandchildren, Cody Huett, Austin Huett, Jade Parker, Oliver Osbourn, Harper Rae Cleckley and Kennedy Reece Cleckley; sister, Esther Foshee of Cullman, AL; sister-in-law,  Shirley Hayes Gorsalitz of Jersey Vig, Texas; nieces, Mitchelene Shaddix, Janice Brasher, Amelia Barrow Edge, Sandra Boyd and Linda Donniette Bracken; nephews R.C. Jackson Crumpton, Danny Foshee and Jason Barrow. She also has a number of step-grandchildren who lovingly call her “Granny Hayes”.

Myrtle was the oldest member of Union Springs Baptist Church having accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 14 in the July revival services. Rev. Reach was the pastor and the evangelist, Rev. Sam Cost preached the message, Lost but Found. She was baptized in a creek along with Josephine Northcutt (mother of race car driver Neil Bonnett) and Willie Mae Cofer.  She taught Sunday School and held the office of church clerk and secretary-treasurer. To know her was to love her. She has often been called the “Little Saint”. She lived her life in service, first to her Precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and second to her family, friends and neighbors. She will be remembered for her sweet spirit and for her effectual fervent prayers.

A visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, March 21 from 5-7 p.m. and a Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, March 22 at 2 p.m. with visitation beginnig at 1 p.m. prior to service at Union Springs Baptist Church, Randolph. Burial will immediately follow service at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Maplesville with Rev. Evie Megginson officiating and Martin Funeral Home directing.
