Collins Chapel Fire and Rescue is launching its second annual spaghetti supper and gun drawing fundraiser, set for 6 p.m. on March 16 at the fire station.

Proceeds will fund the purchase of a heart monitor for the fire department.

“It’s used for external defibrillation if someone has a heart attack,” Fire Chief Jay Littleton said. “It also helps us analyze a patient’s heart rhythm if they’re having trouble breathing or chest pain.”

Spaghetti plates are $5 each.

Ten guns, ranging from “shotguns to rifles to a couple of handguns,” will be awarded to winning ticket drawings throughout the evening, according to Littleton.

Tickets for the drawings were purchased prior to the event for $100 each.

Littleton said funds raised at the 2017 spaghetti supper allowed for the training of firefighters throughout the year. Currently, CCFR is in the process of training five more firefighters and has an EMT class scheduled for later in the year.

Littleton thanked the surrounding community for its support throughout the past few years, extending a special thanks to the fire departments who assisted the Collins Chapel community while CCFR rebooted in the wake of a former fire chief’s crimes against the fire department.

Aiding fire departments included Union Grove Fire and Rescue Department, Cedar Grove Fire Department, Gap of the Mountain Fire and Rescue Department, Thorsby Fire Department and Jemison City Fire Department.

“We really appreciated their help while we were shut down,” Littleton said. “We’re grateful for the support of the community. We’ve come a long way in the last year or two.”
