Even though all of his adoption fees have been paid by a sponsor, the Chilton County Humane Society is still having a hard time finding Scooter, a 1-year-old lab mix male dog, a forever home. The dog had been initially brought to the shelter as a stray in September 2017.

“He was adopted out and then brought back because he is not good with livestock,” Humane Society Vice President Kristi Hyche said.

Someone who wants to see the dog adopted but was not a good fit for him has paid the adoption fees. All that would be needed to adopt Scooter is an application and a home visit.

Hyche said the home visit by a board member would be a requirement in this case because it has to be somewhere without livestock or other pets and have a fenced-in yard.

“He just needs to be where he can be the only dog and be pampered and loved,” Hyche said.

While Scooter is not good around other animals, he is good with children. Hyche said Scooter is a “wonderful, wonderful dog. He loves people. He loves children.”

The adoption application can be found on the humane society’s website at chiltoncountyhumanesociety.org under the dogs tab.

Scooter is not the first animal at the shelter to have its adoption fees sponsored by someone in the community.

Hyche said sponsors will pay the fee in hopes that someone who would be a good fit for an animal but could not afford the fee will provide it a home.

Hyche said the humane society is thankful for sponsors and others in the community who support the shelter.
