Jemison Public Library is holding its sixth annual Fairy Tale Show from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 9 at Jemison City Hall Auditorium.

Attendance is $2 for adults and $1 for children 18 and younger.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Librarian Tammie McGriff of the Jemison Public Library said.

The fairy-tale themed event will feature booths by various community groups, offering activities such as crafts, games or special snacks, and opportunities to win door prizes.

“Everyone can dress up in their favorite … book character or whatever,” McGriff said.

Individuals and groups featured at the event will do the same, having decorated their booths according to their chosen fairytale theme.

As a sneak-peek of this fairy-tale decked fun, McGriff said an Alice in Wonderland booth will serve tea, the Clanton Chilton Public Library has a Jack and the Bean Stalk booth and will offer a planting activity, a Brave themed booth will offer rubber-tipped archery and a Lion King booth will offer face-painting. Mother Goose will read some books.

McGriff said groups can present or perform on stage, and will draw the winners for their booths’ door prizes.

Several special performances include a merry ol’ soul fiddling performance by Old King Cole and a children’s tumbling routine.

University of Alabama Crimsonette Anna Calhoun will emcee the event.

As a bonus feature to the event, Jemison Public Library will be auctioning a miniature hat and miniature football, both signed by Nick Saban and donated by Nick’s Kids Foundation.

McGriff laughed and said these items were an ironic addition to a Crimsonette-emceed event.

“We’re going to have to get some great pictures of that!” she said.

Jemison High School cheerleaders and baseball players, also in character, will be collecting money to benefit the Jemison Public Library.

“There will be drinks, food and actually flowers for sale,” McGriff said, explaining that Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be selling these items.

McGriff said the flowers are typically carnations.

“It’s real cute. A lot of them get them for their little girlfriend or whatever,” McGriff said.
