Chilton County Schools will be closed on Jan. 17 for weather-related reasons.
Chilton County Schools Superintendent Tommy Glasscock said the decision was made in light of the extension of a state of emergency by Gov. Kay Ivey.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the area until 6 a.m. on Jan. 17. The National Weather Service in Birmingham has also released a wind chill advisory, which will remain in effect until 9 a.m. Jan. 17
“Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken,” the report stated. “Make sure you wear a hat and gloves.”
Proper care should also be taken for pets and pipes that could freeze.
School had been closed on Jan. 16 due to concerns about icy road conditions.
