Santa Claus has a busy night and many deliveries to make on Christmas Eve, but before he begins his journey around the world he will be part of a ride along through the streets of Thorsby thanks to the Thorsby Fire Department.
It is an annual event and a partnership between the fire department and the “big man” that has been taking place for several years.
This year’s route will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., which will include scheduled stops that will serve as photo opportunities with Santa.
There will be eight stops and it will follow the same route as last year.
Estimated route destinations and times include:
- Robinson Lane and Deer Drive at 5:45 p.m.
- 241 Frank St. at 5:50 p.m.
- 8401 Jones St. at 6:10 p.m.
- 60 Kaitlyn Drive at 6:30 p.m.
- Howard Street at 6:45 p.m.
- 25 Peachtree Drive at 7:15 p.m.
- Wilson Circle and Glen Drive at 7:45 p.m.
- Medical Center Drive at 7:45 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to stop by the Thorsby Town Hall or the fire station to view the schedule and find out when Santa will be passing by.
The route will not take place if inclement weather arises, but residents can still come and visit with Santa at the fire station from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
If weather plays a factor after the ride begins, the route will be stopped and Santa will return to the fire station and be available for visitors for an hour.
In a press release, Thorsby Fire Chief Lee Gunn reminded residents that 9-1-1 is only to be call for emergencies.
Anyone with questions related to the Santa ride should call the fire station at (205) 646-3725.
Due to the fact that Santa will be riding along in emergency vehicles that are still on duty, and an emergency situation could occur at any time and would take priority.
Gunn apologized ahead of time for any inconvenience and said that the department will do its best to make sure Santa visits as many neighborhoods and streets as possible.
