Chilton County is about to get its hoops fill to open up the New Year with the 2018 county basketball tournament, which is scheduled for Jan. 2-6 at Chilton County High School.

It is a weeklong basketball bonanza that involves each public school and captures the attention of many residents.

Fans pack the gym and as the week moves along, standing room only becomes a way of life.

The tournament will crown an array of champions at the end of the week, as bragging rights will be on the line for both varsity and junior varsity levels.

As football season ends, the holidays begin, which can put basketball on the back burner.

Because of this, the county tournament will be the first time that some residents will have the opportunity to see a basketball game.

Both boys and girls varsity tournaments appear to be up for grabs with several teams feeling as if they have a shot at bringing the title back to their school.

Although in-county games are played throughout the regular season, nothing carries the same emotion that will be on display in the tournament-like atmosphere.

One thing for sure is that there will be no surprises heading into the county tournament.

The players, coaches and fans all know each other, which can make for some tantalizing subplots.
