CCHS girls defend home court

With three road games to start the season, the Chilton County girls basketball team
returned to the friendly confines of home on Nov. 28 to face off with the Prattville Lions.
The Tigers got the night’s action going and did not disappoint, coming away with a 74-64 victory over the visiting Lions.
Chilton County got off to a fast start with an early basket from Adison Argent, which led an 8-0 run for the Tigers that gave CCHS an early 8-2 lead.
Jaliah Blake’s broke up the run with a three-pointer for the Lions and it was followed by a basket from Jaya Kelly to cut the lead to two.
Argent again started a Chilton County run with a basket from downtown that kicked off a 9-0 run and gave the Tigers a 19-7 lead at the end of one.
The Tigers’ lead continued to grow during the second quarter, as Shalisa White and Argent added baskets for six early points to extend the lead 24-7.
An old-fashioned three-point play by Chloe Reed cut the Chilton County lead to 12, but baskets by Alexis Blackman and Holley McKinnon opened the Tigers’ lead to 16.
Late baskets by White and Jasmine Martin sent Chilton County to the halftime break sporting a 37-19 lead.
The Lions used the third quarter to begin to chip away at the Tigers’ lead.
With the Tigers leading by 20, a basket by Kacie Washington began a 7-0 Prattville run that ended on a free throw from Blackman.
A three from Washington made it a 10-point game, but a buzzer beating three at the end of the third quarter by Argent gave the Tigers 53-40 lead.
Martin and Kiara Steele made it a 16-point Chilton County lead in the early minutes of the fourth quarter, but it was answered by straight baskets from Nyla Mays to cut the lead to 12.
Hallie Arnold and Martin aided in pushing the Tigers back to a 15-point lead midway through the period, while Arnold and Blackmon later made the Chilton County lead 19.
A late push by the Lions cut the CCHS lead to 10, but the Tigers successfully defended its home court in a 74-64 victory.
Martin led the Tigers with 16 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and a block.
Washington led the Lions with 19 points, four rebounds and six steals.
