Couple arrested on drug charges

A couple walking along County Road 81 in the Lomax area was arrested on Sept. 8 on drug charges.

The suspects were two of three individuals walking along the county road and carrying suitcases, Assistant Chief Deputy Shane Mayfield of the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office said.

Mayfield said Deputy Jeff Brown spotted the trio and stopped to offer assistance.

“In speaking with them, he determined two of the individuals had outstanding misdemeanor warrants,” Mayfield said.

The individuals were identified as James Darryl Haynes, 51, and Laura Ladawn Taylor, 44.

“During search of their persons incident to lawful arrest,” Mayfield said, “Deputy Brown located methamphetamine, illegal prescription pills, needles and marijuana.”

Haynes faces charges of unlawful possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of prescription drugs.

Taylor faces charges of second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of prescription drugs.

Haynes and Taylor are in custody at the CCSO jail.
