Huug Wouter Smit

Huug Wouter Smit, 77, of Daphne, passed away Thursday, Aug. 10 at his home.

Mr. Smit was born in Medan, Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) on June 3, 1940 and was raised in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

He was a former resident of Norway, Clanton, and Mobile. His hobbies include woodworking, inventing, mechanical drafting, soccer and yard sales. He was always making jokes and was a giving person and loved his family very much.

Huug is preceded in death by his parents, Johannes and Rainah, and brothers, Jack and Bob.

He is survived by his son, Johan Alexander (Jorun) Smit and their children, Andreas, Sondre and Jonas; his daughter, Barbro Christine Elser and her children, Alex, Merlin and Lily. Also surviving are his brothers, Dick Smit; Wouter (Ria) Smit; nephews, Martin and Eric and nieces, Jacqueline and Yvonne and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Huug’s life will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne. The family will receive friends beginning at 3 p.m.
