In an unlikely turn of events, ham is now bringing home the bacon for Habitat for Humanity.
Well, sort of.
Habitat for Humanity of Autauga and Chilton Counties is hosting an online fundraiser through The HoneyBaked Ham Company, collecting funds to further its mission to supply quality homes at affordable prices for low-income families.
The fundraising event has been officially dubbed “Habitat’s Heavenly Hams and Tasty Turkeys”.
“This is something a little different,” executive director Lisa Green of Habitats for Humanity Autauga and Chilton said.
Through the fundraiser, Green explained, individuals can purchase HoneyBaked gift cards using Habitat for Humanity’s fundraiser page. Gift card denominations of $10, $25, $35 and $50 can be selected for the purchase of any items at any HoneyBaked Ham location. Cards are then shipped to arrive within several weeks.
“You can send them as a Christmas gift or birthday gift,” Green suggested.
Green organized the fundraiser through The HoneyBaked Ham Company in June and said that Habitat for Humanity of Autauga and Chilton Counties plans to continue the campaign until next June.
Twenty percent of the proceeds from the gift card purchases goes to Habitat for Humanity of Autauga and Chilton Counties.
“Any funds we get,” Green said, “it is used to build simple, decent, affordable homes for families.”
Green expressed her passion for serving families using dignified methods that extend beyond mere gift-giving to allow low-income families to afford the quality homes their hard work deserves.
“They need a hand up, not a handout,” she said. “To have a really nice home at a low monthly mortgage—you can have your cake and eat it, too!”
