The 2017 Little Miss Peach Queen is Maggi Beth Harrison.

“I was really excited,” Harrison said about hearing her name announced as the winner.

This year’s Little Miss Peach was crowned June 17 marking the kick-off of the week-long Peach Festival.

“I’ve enjoyed interview and I’ve enjoyed all of the things,” Harrison said. “The interview was really fun, and the questions were really fun.”

Each contestant participates in an interview prior to the pageant. Harrison said her questions were about “my dog, me and what I want to be when I grow up and what I do most of the time.”

Harrison wants to be a dolphin trainer, so she can help dolphins and teach them tricks.

She was sponsored in the pageant by Harrison Logging and attends Clanton Elementary School.

This was Harrison’s second time competing for the title. Harrison competed last year and placed fourth.

Casual wear winner and first alternate were awarded to Blaire Paisleigh Adams. Sophie Oaks was named second alternate. Third alternate was awarded to Elizabeth Gray. Leelah Penley was fourth alternate.

Coloring contest winners were Elizabeth Gray and Abby Baxley.

In celebration of the 70th Anniversary, former Little Miss Peach Queens were recognized during the event.

Local peach growers were also thanked for all they do for Chilton County.

“This year has been bad for the peaches with the frost and not enough hours got some of the peaches, so we are praying for our peach farmers that they will recover and they will do well,” emcee Al Headly said. “Give our peach farmers a big hand.”

He said it was the peach farmers that put Chilton County on the map.

Peach pageants continue tonight with the crowning of Young Miss Peach. Each Peach Queen receives several prizes donated by local businesses.
