The Clanton Police Department and Chilton County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest of two suspects who allegedly have committed multiple burglaries in Chilton County and the surrounding area.

Jeffery Clyde Carpenter, 45, and Judy Marrero Carpenter, 53, of Clanton, were arrested on May 2 for charges related to the investigation. Judy Carpenter was charged with theft of property, receiving stolen property and third degree burglary. Jeffery Carpenter was charged with receiving stolen property.

All charges have been waived to a grand jury. Jeffery Carpenter is out on a $5,000 bond. Judy Carpenter is out on a $10,750 bond.

According to a release from the CPD, three utility trailers were needed to transport the recovered property from the suspects’ residence. The search involved the CPD, CCSO and Prattville Police Department.

Before discovering the hoard of stolen goods, the CPD was investigating a burglary that occurred at First Assembly of God in Clanton on April 29 when they identified the suspect’s vehicle on video surveillance.

Police later found the vehicle at a residence on County Road 436. The suspect attempted to run from officers, but was detained for questioning. While at the residence, officers from the CPD and CCSO found what was described as “an unusual amount of property.” There were tools, lawnmowers, televisions and “countless other items.”

During a search of the area, officers discovered another suspect inside the house. Officers recovered property connecting the suspects to six cases, two of which are from Pratville.

Detectives are still working to determine if the property is connected to any other offenses in the area.
