Peach Pageant applications available

This summer will mark 70 years since the first Chilton County Peach Pageant Queen was crowned.
The Clanton Lions Clubs has organized the Peach Pageant and Festival since 1998.
This year’s queens will be decided in pageants on June 17, 19, 20 and 22.
Registration date is May 7 at 1 p.m. with orientation at 2 p.m. at the Chilton County Senior Connection.
Contestants need to bring four wallet size headshots, a copy of their birth certificate, completed fact sheet and contract, entry fee, ad and ad money.
Applications for the Peach Pageant are available at Glitz & Gowns, Morlyns, Edward Jewelers, Trendy Chic Boutique, Brenda’s Formal Wear, Bahama Drama, San Marcos, Nail Star, Peach Lily Boutique, Shear Perfection, Peach Park, Hopes Chest, Cornerstone, Frou Frou Frocks and the YMCA.
Miss Peach Queen will receive a $2,000 scholarship and the first alternate will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The other queens and first alternates receive cash prizes.
The deadline for the Peach Photogenic contest will also be May 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Chilton County Senior Connection Center. According to Peach committee member Cindy Mazingo, the age groups are a little different this year. The categories will be 0-5 months; 6-11 months; 1-2 years old; 3-4 years old; 5-7 years old; 8-10 years old; 11-13 years old; 14-15 years old; 16-17 years old; and 18-19 years old.
Available to participants again this year is the Future Leaders Scholarship opportunity sponsored by Shelby Baptist Medical Center. To compete for the scholarship, contestants will write an essay answering the question, ” What is the biggest health, education or social issue facing your community today?”
Essays must be at least 500 words. A resume and copy of the student’s high school transcript are also required.
According to the scholarship press release, the Shelby Baptist Medical Center will select a winner based on academic achievement, involvement in student and professional organizations, career goals and financial need.
Deadline for application is June 13.
