With a 46-6 win over the Winterboro Bulldogs on Friday night, the Isabella Mustangs will advance to round two of the AHSAA 1A State Football Playoffs.
The Mustangs (10-1 Overall; 5-1 Region) set to prove early in the contest that a 48-12 win over the Bulldogs earlier in the season was no fluke and put six on the board with their opening drive when Jared Campbell found the end zone on a 25-yard touchdown run to give Isabella a 6-0 lead.
A three and out by the Bulldogs (6-5, 4-2) set the Mustangs up with their second possession of the evening at their own 39 where two plays later Jaqarise Stacy would break a 45 yard touchdown run to make the Isabella lead 12 still early in the first quarter.
After a pair of scoreless possessions by both teams, the Mustangs found the end zone once again as Austin Brasher made the score 19-0 with a three yard touchdown run that capped off a 54 yard scoring drive while sending the game to the halftime break.
With the opening possession of the second half a Bulldogs punt from the Isabella 42 would set the Mustangs up with their worst field position of the night at their own 21, but just two plays into the drive and Stacy would connect with Brasher for a 79 yard touchdown pass to make the score 25-0.
Isabella would make it two for two with their second possession of the second half as Cornelius Stacy would cap off a fifty yard drive with a 28 yard touchdown run for give Isabella a 32-0 lead late in the third quarter.
A fumble recovery by Austin Headley at the Isabella 26 would give the Mustang offense a short field and with a 5-yard touchdown run by Jared Cambell, Isabella would extend their lead to 39-0.
With just 5:26 left on the clock, Lance Price tacked on the final points of the game for Isabella with a 12-yard touchdown carry to bring the score to 46-0.
Winterboro broke the shutout with 4:23 to play, but it would be far from enough as the Mustangs picked up their second win of the season over the Bulldogs to advance to a round two matchup on the road against the Georgiana Panthers.
“Nobody is going to give us any chance in the world, and that is fine. We are going to do what we do, and prepare to win and move on to the next one,” said Mustangs head football coach Tate Leonard. “It is survival of the fittest and we are just going to go to work and we are not planning on going down there to lose.”
Stacy lead the Mustangs with 114 yards on 10 carries on the ground while picking up 234 through the air on 7 of 11 passing with three touchdowns.
In the victory, Isabella broke a school record for most points in scored in a season with 518, which surpassed the previous record of 507 from 2002.
