JEMISON – The Jemison volleyball team is off to a 2-1 (1-0) start in Class 5A Region 6 after winning their last two matches in a row over Marbury on Sept. 1, and Thorsby on Sept. 6.

After a 3-1 loss to open their season they bounced back in a big way with these two victories and look to build off of that momentum as they head to Chilton County on Sept. 8 and host the 2016 JHS Panther Round Robin tournament on Saturday, Sept. 10.

During that two-match stretch the Panthers were led by senior Cassani Steele with a combined 31 kills, six block solos and nine aces as they defeated Marbury 3-1 and Thorsby 3-0.

The Panthers win over Marbury was an important one as it gave them an early 1-0 record in area play

Hannah Northcutt was also a big contributor with her combined 31 assists and Camille Hague added a team leading 36 digs.

Jemison will play host to Shelby County, Montevallo and Thorsby on Saturday in a big tournament with several good teams who have posted winning records thus far.

It’s especially important for the Panthers because their lone loss came to Montevallo back on Aug. 30 in their first match of the 2016 season. A revenge win over the Bulldogs would go a long way for this teams confidence.

The round robin tournament will begin Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and the final match is tentatively scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Cost of admission is $7 for an all day pass.
