The Chilton County United Way’s first fundraiser of its 2017 campaign will take place in the form of a gospel singing at First United Methodist Church in Clanton beginning at 6 p.m. on Oct. 8.

Local musicians Lance Driskell, Cannan Land, Justified will provide entertainment for the event along with The Signs of Mercy II, who will be signing various gospel hymns.

Homemade cakes and pies will be donated by local restaurants and businesses and will be auctioned off by Chilton County Superintendent of Education Tommy Glasscock.

All the proceeds from the event will benefit the 20 agencies in Chilton County that the United Way is associated with.

“We have to have money in order to help out those agencies that depend on us,” Chilton County United Way Executive Director Christy Foshee said. “Without money, we’re dead in the water.”

It will be the second gospel singing event held in 2016, after the most recent event taking place on June 4.

The 2017 campaign year began at the start of August and ends in July.

According to Foshee, a peach cobbler was auctioned off for $125 at the last event, which brings about a level of high expectations this time around.

“We would love for it to be another good turnout,” Foshee said. “We don’t take any of our support for granted.”
