For the third time in the last year, Cake Addiction has relocated and this time believes to have found a home in the heart of Clanton.

The business opened up and spent about four months at the corner of Ollie Road and Lay Dam Road, before moving for a brief stint along U.S. 31.

The mother and daughter tandem of Shelley Jones and Nicole Barrett are the owners and bakers of the shop.

According to Jones, the move from Ollie Road was due to the business growing to large for the available space, while the U.S. 31 location did not provide the necessary customer traffic.

She hopes that the move to First Avenue next to Clanton Cleaners in downtown Clanton will provide the best of both worlds, as the new location provides the necessary kitchen space and added convenience for customers.

“It is great to be back downtown,” Jones said. “That will hopefully improve our customer service a great deal,” Jones said.

According to Jones, several customers had stated that the previous location was too far of a drive for them.

Cake Addiction officially reopened the doors to the bakeshop on Aug. 23, and if the first couple days are an indication of the future, the shop appears primed for success.

“I pride myself on knowing each one of our customers, and I’ve already seen a lot of new faces,” Barrett said.

After receiving continuous encouragement from friends and family about her cupcakes over the years, Jones eventually decided to take the next step.

“They believed that I was too talented not to turn it into a business,” Jones said.

Customers can choose from about 35 different flavors of cupcakes that vary each day.

However, cupcakes are just one of Cake Addiction’s specialties, which also include cakes and other edible arrangements available to be catered to weddings, showers and any other event.

“There are always new trends and designs that need to be researched and learned,” Jones said. “I’ve learned a lot over the years, and gotten a lot faster.”

Typical business hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closed Sunday and Monday.
