Fatal crash on I-65

A fatal crash occurred in Clanton on the morning of Aug. 31. A semi-trailer truck overturned on the I-65 off ramp at the 208 exit.

According to the Clanton Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. There were two occupants in the vehicle: the driver and a family member. The driver was fatally wounded in the crash. Names are not available at this time as the department works to notify the next of kin.

The duo was headed to Merchant Services in Clanton. According to the witness’s statement, they arrived early and the store wasn’t open yet, so they pulled off at the 208 and that is when the accident happened.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation by the Clanton Traffic Homicide Unit, who will work with the state to determine the cause. More information will be released at a later date, according to the Clanton Police Department.
