CLANTON — Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church and Clear Waters Cowboy Church are joining together for Love Thy Neighbor, a night of gospel music benefiting a local family on Aug. 13 at 6p.m. at the Mt. Pisgah sanctuary.
Deb Taylor one of the event’s organizers said the community saw a neighbor in need and got together to do something to help the Duren family.
Taylor said Stacy Duren, a local contractor, has not been able to work because of declining health and supports his wife, Nikki and their children with his income.
“When someone has a need you have to be there and support them,” Taylor said. “Stacy and his family are the salt of the earth and we’re happy to help them however we can.”
Taylor said the night is going to be a fun, free event for anyone to attend with an array of musical talent.
“We had a great group of singers come together to get this event started,” she said. “A lot of them are local musicians, and these guys can sing.”
Taylor said there was an immediate response and many people have come together to support the family and make sure the night will be a success.
“Please help us be a part of this family’s solution,” said Clear Waters pastor Jim Gunter in a press release. “We can offer Stacy and Nikki a hallelujah moment in the midst of health hardships.”
Taylor said donations are welcome to help the Duren’s but are not expected. She said the night is a celebration of community and fellowship.
“Sometimes when you’re having a hard time it’s important to get out of the house and enjoy yourself,” she said. “We hope the Duren’s will feel the love and support this whole community has for them.”
