Good food for a reasonable price is what Green’s Small Town Diner looks to offer its customers on a daily basis.
The menu consists of homemade southern food and is served in traditional meat-and-three style.
According to owner William Green, the selection of meats and vegetables varies each day and includes a choice of meat, three sides, dessert and a drink for $8.25 plus tax.
Each night of the week has its own special, which includes hamburger steak on Monday, spaghetti and meat sauce on Tuesday, hot hamburger on Wednesday, Barbecue plate on Thursday and all you can eat catfish on Friday.
Friday catfish and Sundays after church are usually the busiest times for the restaurant staff, Green said.
Green’s sister Michelle Avalos serves as the diner’s manager and makes sure that everything from the food preparation to the waitress service is on par.
Since the restaurant opened nearly a year and a half ago, it has established a reliable base of regular customers.
A major reason for the loyal following is due to Green’s willingness not to forget that the goal for any restaurant is to feed its customers.
“They don’t leave hungry,” Green said.
Green likes to offer fresh vegetables depending on the season, and takes pride in the flavorful arrays of seasoning used in many of the recipes.
As customers walk in, they have the option to choose a meat and sides from the buffet or order straight from the menu.
Green’s Small Town Diner is open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The buffet is offered each day except Saturday, while typical menu items can satisfy seafood cravings to a hearty appetite of steak and potatoes.
The diner is a quaint setup that seats about 50 people.
According to Green, everything step has been made with the customers in mind, and plans for expansion and a new sign could be a realistic possibility.
“We could have more people on Sundays if we just had the room,” Green said.
