Tolliver Gilliland of Chilton County High School signed to play college baseball for Huntingdon College in Montgomery on May 26.

Although Gilliland played shortstop, second base and third base for the Tigers, he experienced the most success on the mound.

During his senior season, he was considered by many to be the Tigers’ ace.

As a senior, Gilliland appeared in 16 games with 12 of the appearances registered as starts.

During the 16 games, he pitched 72 3/4 innings, struck out 51, had an ERA of 2.79 and finished with a record of 9-3.

In 32 career appearances as a varsity pitcher (25 starts), Gilliland compiled a record of 14-6 with an ERA of 2.22 and 95 strikeouts in 151 3/4 innings of work.

“Tolliver has had a love for baseball from the first day he started little league at the age of four,” said Jennifer Gilliland, Tolliver’s mother. “He has always dreamed of playing at the college level, and he set his goals high.

He worked hard as an infielder and pitcher, but he was able to stay focused on academics at the same time. His success on the mound helped him achieve his goals.”

Gilliland will join teammate Corbin Bice, who also signed with Huntingdon to play baseball.

Both players consistently contributed to Chilton County’s success over the past few years.
