The Chilton County Humane Society will host its third annual wine tasting fundraiser at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hidden Meadows Vineyard and Winery in Jemison.

Admission for the event is $10 per person at the door, and will include a sampling of wines, with an auction to begin at 9 p.m.

“It’ll make for a really good date night,” said Katherine Reece, secretary on the Humane Society’s executive board. “You could not ask for better wine. There will be seating on the back porch of the vineyard, a two-piece band featuring Britt Johnson and Kurt McKinney, who are both just incredible, and our auctioneer for the night is (Superintendent of Education) Tommy Glasscock. He’s a hoot and does a really good job.”

Hidden Meadows owners Bill and Janette Bailey, who are donating the venue and space, will also donate $1 for every bottle of handcrafted Southern wine sold that evening.

“All wine is crafted on-site with fruit and produce grown locally in Chilton County and the surrounding areas,” Reece said.

Humane Society officials hope to surpass last years’ $3,000 fundraising total.

With an auction featuring several items donated by volunteers and sponsors, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Adding a helping hand, local artist Diana Hiott will also donate several pieces from her collection.

“I always supported the Humane Society with my art,” Hiott said. “I have designed three separate prints for them and have donated three additions to the Society for purchase.”

For the auction, Hiott is donating two prints, one a last edition copy of her Friendly Visitor print (made specifically to benefit the Feral Cat Program) with a recycled frame of barn siding crafted by a Sylacauga resident and put together by Falcon Arts of Montevallo.

The second print, titled “Wee Evil,” has a Depression Era feel, featuring a circle of boll weevils on a lace doily background, and features a frame made from the siding of an old home.

Her last two items, handcrafted dolls on the body of a tiger and elephant, are sure to please Alabama and Auburn fans alike.
