Intersection work was poorly planned, executed

Dear editor,

Upon completion of work at the intersection of Alabama Hwy. 22 and U.S. Hwy. 31, I took pictures and took a set to The Clanton Advertiser and to the mayor’s office.

The city clerk gave me a point of contact for the project, and I called him and he gave me another point of contact for a Mr. Couch. I informed him who I was and why I was calling, and he said he already had copies of the pictures that were forwarded to him by the mayor’s office.

My complaint was that there was no handicapped across the corners, no walk lanes and no walk/don’t walk lights, and the whole intersection is like driving across a washboard. He informed me that he is looking into the complaints.

He did not know why these items were not included in the original design (doh). He did say that the paved part in front of Smokey T’s will be repaved.

As I understand it, neither the city or county had any say in that whole mess. It was strictly a state contract.

However, if you want to contact Mr. Couch and give him your view, his number is (334) 366-2954 or you can email him at chouchk@dot.state.al.us.
