After splitting the first two games of the series, Chilton County High School lost 14-0 in six innings in the final game of their road second-round playoff series against Hillcrest in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday.

Game 3 was originally scheduled for Saturday, but severe weather postponed the game until Tuesday.

In the first two games of the series, the Tigers were able to plate a combined total of 16 runs, 12 in Game 1 and four in Game 2.

However, the result in Game 3 was much different.

The two teams were scoreless through the first two innings. The Patriots were able to score a run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third and take a 1-0 lead.

Though they were able to collect five hits on the evening, Chilton County was not able to tally any runs.

Hillcrest added six runs in the fifth and another seven in the sixth to win the game.

Senior Tolliver Gilliland started the game for Chilton County and was followed in relief by Noah McGhar, Jarrett Ricks and Seth Harris.

All three players pitched fairly well, but Hillcrest’s bats were just too hot to keep them off the base paths.

At the plate, senior Cade Hatch had the spotlight for the Tigers. He finished the day with three singles in three trips.

“Our seniors were the backbone of the team, and each one of them was a vital part of our success,” Chilton County head coach Ryan Ellison said. “I look forward to the underclassmen stepping into the seniors’ shoes as we continue to strive for excellence in the years to come.”

Dustin Cleckler and Keaton Sullivan had singles as well.

The game did not go as Chilton County had hoped. The loss marked the end of their 2016 season with a record of 22-15.

“I’m proud of our team and their accomplishments this year,” Ellison said. “They really came together as the season progressed and learned how to battle and overcome adversity.”
