George “Curley” Moreland, 73, of Brierfield, was born on Dec. 20, 1942, and died February 6 at home with family by his side.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Moreland; father, J. Reid Moreland; mother, Edna L. Moreland; sister, Wanda McGraw; brothers, John and Bobby Moreland; and grandson, Justin Gillen.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Price Moreland; sons, Robby Griffin (Missy) and Rodney Griffin (Shenan) both of Ga.; daughters, Amy Parsons (David) and April Owens both of Brierfield, Brenda Byrd (Robby) of Thorsby and Sandy Gillen of Brierfield; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra Dean Graves; brother, James “Hubby” Moreland; and a host of family and friends.

Curley’s celebration of life will be held on Feb. 9 at noon at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo) with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Brierfield Cemetery and Bro. Shannon Allen will officiate.

Curley gave his thanks and love every day to Marie’s daughter, Angela Jones (Duke) and granddaughters, Danielle Griffin, Chrissy, Katie and LeAnn Land, because without them, he couldn’t have spent his last days happy and had his family by his side when he made his journey home.
