Library changes its focus

The Thorsby Library is changing its focus, hoping to draw more visitors.

The library, which is at City Hall, will soon carry only pleasure-reading books instead of non-fiction and research materials, according to Chilton-Clanton Public Library Director Jo Abernathy.

“It wasn’t being used like we want it to be,” said Abernathy. “So, we decided to try this.”

Abernathy said anyone needing to do research can sign up for a virtual library card and access countless books, articles and databases from the library’s computer.

The library is open during City Hall’s normal business hours.

Library staffers hope to finish arranging books by the end of the week.

“I hope this week settles out with us having everything in order,” said Abernathy.

Once a patron signs up for a library card, the same card can be used at libraries in Clanton, Jemison and Maplesville. Readers can also go to ccpl.lib.al.us/opac/ccpl/ to see if books are checked out or to reserve books online.
