Residents at the Gardens of Clanton celebrated National Assisted Living Week on Tuesday with “Hawaiian Day.”
Administrator Vickie Moseley said the day’s activities are part of a week of events meant to celebrate the residents.
“This is a week where we celebrate the residents,” Moseley said. “It is a week where people can stop by and learn more of what we do here at the Gardens. A lot of people have never even been here, and we would love for them to stop by and visit with everyone.”
Justin Thomas provided a devotion before lunch was served by encouraging the residents that the Lord is on their side.
“Sometimes we feel like people neglect us or set us aside, but the Lord is always there. He is always a faithful friend.”
SunCrest Home Health provided a fruit tray for lunch, and pineapples were donated by Amedisys Home Health of Clanton.
Pineapple chicken was served with various “Hawaiian” themed side dishes.
The Chosen Two performed a special singing beginning at 10:30 a.m.
“We just wanted to have a day where we had a luau theme, “Moseley said. “The residents loved getting to wear bright colors today.”
National Assisted Living Week kicked off on Sept. 13 with an ice cream and cake social with pictures made for frames and the Peach Queens visiting the residents.
On Sept. 14, Hickory Chip barbecue served for “Patriotic Day.” Soldiers presented a flag and led residents in the Pledge of Allegiance. Sen. Cam Ward visited and presented a proclamation. Signs of Mercy provided the singing.
•On Wednesday, San Marcos will provide lunch and entertain for “Mexican Day.”
•Thursday will feature a fashion show with Southern Care Hospice and LeCroy Career Technical Center cosmetology students presenting the fashion show. Chilton County High School cheerleaders and band will also visit at 2:15 p.m. Cupcakes and water will be donated by Amedisys Home Health of Clanton. The Peach Queens will also visit the residents.
•Friday will conclude the week’s festivities with “Spirit Day” featuring grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream, cupcakes, glass bottled cokes and peanuts provided by Chandler Drugs, a cake provided by Amedisys Home Health of Clanton and a devotion provided by Jim Collins.
Chilton County District Judge Rhonda Hardesty, Probate Judge Bobby Martin, Circuit Court Clerk Glenn McGriff and state Rep. Jimmy Martin also attended the festivities on Tuesday and visited with the residents during lunch.
Scott Lawrenson, CEO of Great Oaks Management—the company that owns the Gardens of Clanton—presented the staff with an award for receiving a high score on the state deficiency free survey.
Lawrenson explained facilities throughout the state are required to have surveys completed about a facility and the Gardens of Clanton received “outstanding” ratings based on the survey scores.
“We are so proud of this,” Moseley said. “It takes a lot of people to make all of this possible.”
