Tigers of all ages took to the turf of Tiger Stadium on Saturday as Chilton County High School hosted Tiger Day.

The annual event features youth, junior varsity and varsity football teams scrimmaging in front of fans.

Clanton Blue and Orange Midgets got the day’s action started and were followed by the Minors, Majors and Chilton County High School’s junior varsity squad.

As the varsity team took the field for its scrimmage, they wasted little time in going to work on the passing game.

On the second play, quarterback C.J. Driver connected with Cade Hatch for a 19-yard gain. Another completion from Driver to Keaton Sullivan for 17 yards set up a diving touchdown grab by Hatch for the first varsity score of the day.

The second drive of the day stalled at the 18-yard line, but a 28-yard field goal from Patrick Rogers sailed just inside the right upright for three more points.

Kendall Davis connected with Hunter Henson for a 19-yard gain to move the offense down to the 25-yard line to bring the standard scrimmage to an end.

The CCHS coaching staff elected to use the last few minutes of the day working on goal line situations.

During this period, Driver reached the end zone on a 5-yard scamper on second down.

Lining back up at the 5-yard line, Driver handed off to Kidevon McDaniel, who went in for the final score of the day.

“We got after it, and the kids had a good time—that is what was most important,” CCHS coach Brian Bradford said. “Nobody is injured, we gave the fans something to see and everyone had a good time.”

The varsity Tigers will get their season started this Friday night at home against the Aggies of Sylacauga.

“We have to be able to defend the option.” Bradford said. “They are a good option team, very well coached, great offensive line, good sound defense. They had a great team least year, and we came up one point short. We want to come out and revenge that loss. It is going to be tough because they are a great football team. They have a great coaching staff over there, and their kids always play hard.”

Driver went 3-for-3 through the air for 59 yards and a touchdown. Davis went 4-for-5 for 62 yards.

McDaniel led the running attack with 15 yards and a touchdown on five carries, while Hatch led the receiving corps with three grabs for 59 yards and a touchdown.
