A fight at a party led to a shooting Sunday in Clanton.

The victim in the incident, a 27-year-old Clanton resident, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen and arm but was reportedly in stable condition, according to a Clanton Police Department release.

CPD responded to the area of 15th Place, a residential area off 15th Street in west Clanton, about 9 p.m. Sunday on a disturbance call.

Police discovered that the victim had been shot and had traveled to a nearby fuel station, where he received treatment from medical personnel.

The victim was transported to a hospital by helicopter.

Police have developed a “person of interest” but declined to provide the name, or the name of the victim, because of the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation.

“Details of the investigation indicated that the shooting was a result of a fight at a party,” CPD Capt. David Clackley said in the release. “More details will be released as they come available, but CPD would like to ensure the community that this was not a random act of violence and no known dangers to the community exist at this time. We appreciate the members of the community who are working with us to keep the streets safe.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is encouraged to call Clanton Police Department at (205) 755-1194.
