The members of the Alabama Republican State Executive Committee from the Sixth Congressional District elected Renee Powers the vice chairwoman of Congressional District 6.

“I am a conservative Republican who believes in one nation under God, individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, limited spending, limited taxes, the creation of jobs through free market economic opportunity, homeland security and compassion for the truly needy,” Powers said in a press release. “It is with these principles I want to continue my service to the Alabama Republican Party.”

Powers has served on the local and state executive committees since 2010.

In the 2014 Republican Primary, Chilton County elected her to continue serving another four years on the ALGOP State Executive Committee.

As a local executive committee member, she has served as a publicity director and had the responsibility of developing membership for the Chilton County Republican Party.

In the District 6 Presidential Republican Primary, she was elected in 2008 and in 2012 as a delegate for Gov. Mike Huckabee and an alternate delegate for Mitt Romney to the Republican National Convention.

Her service has included many local, state and national campaigns for Republican candidates. This past election cycle she served in campaigns for seven Republican candidates.

Gov. Robert Bentley appointed her to his 2014 Campaign Finance Committee. Powers and her husband, Tom, had the honor of hosting a reception for Bentley in their home. They also hosted a reception for Attorney General Luther Strange in this last election cycle.

Powers retired in 1998 after teaching kindergarten for 25 years. In her retirement years, she has volunteered to promote Republican causes and candidates as well as a variety of community service projects.

Powers said she looks forward to serving the executive committees of District 6 in Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Coosa, Jefferson and Shelby counties.

“I will work with Chairman Chris Brown to support and encourage Republican leadership locally, statewide and nationally as well as keep voters informed of current Republican issues and news,” Powers said. “I am honored that my state executive committee peer group in District 6 has given me this opportunity to serve and have confidence in my leadership.”
