The ninth annual Sportsmen’s Spectacular will be hosted by Liberty Hill Baptist Church on March 14 and will feature a wild game supper, kids’ competitions and a grand prize of a $250 Bass Pro Shops gift card.

The event will feature Hawkins Ridge, a singing duo made up of a carpenter and a preacher from Livingston. The duo writes, sings and performs songs about hunting, fishing, faith, family and time spent in the great outdoors.

They have shared the stage with outdoor leaders like Troy Ruiz, Dwayne McClemore and 2014 Bassmaster Classic Champion Randy Howell.

“The LHBC Sportsmen’s Spectacular is a great opportunity for people to come together and enjoy their shared love for the outdoors,” said Kevin Nelson, a member at Liberty Hill and an organizer of the event. “It also gives parents and grandparents a chance to introduce children to the outdoors because of all the kids’ activities. There’s really something for everyone to enjoy.”

Kid’s Zone activities and registration for door prizes will begin at 3 p.m. Supper begins at 5 p.m.

Children’s competitions include casting, a BB gun shoot, an archery competition and more.

First- and second-place trophies will be given for three age groups. There will be activities for younger children as well.

Various wild game is prepared and served for a supper that follows most of the day's activities.

The wild game supper will feature various game captured and cooked by Chilton County locals. Alligator, deer burgers, camp stew, elk and even frog legs have made the menu in years past.

The dining area is elaborately decorated with mounted game hunted by members of the community. Deer, antelope, bobcats, snakes and a few more exotic trophies cover the walls. Decorations are a favorite to regular Sportsmen’s Spectacular attendees.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the night. Prizes range from caps to casserole dishes, from hunting gear to gift certificates. Most prizes are donated by Liberty Hill Baptist Church and local businesses.

Anyone interested in donating a door prize should contact Liberty Hill at 205-755-1694.

The Sportsmen’s Spectacular is a free event with no registration required. Groups should RSVP by calling Liberty Hill at 205-755-1694 or email tina@libertyhillonline.org.
