Local church to offer ashes on Ash Wednesday

There is an ancient Christian practice of placing blessed ashes on foreheads on Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Season of Lent.
“Ashes are a reminder to us all of our own mortality and also of sinfulness in our associations with other persons and within the community in which we live,” the Rev. Bill King of Trinity Episcopal Church in Clanton said in a press release.
The church, which is located at 503 Second Avenue South in Clanton, again this year will offer blessed ashes at the street curb from 11-11:45 a.m. and from 5-5:45 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Residents are invited to just drive to the front of the church, and one of the clergy members will come to your car, offer a brief prayer and place blessed ashes on your forehead.
