The Chilton County Humane Society will host a “Santa Paws” fundraising event Dec. 13 from noon-7 p.m. at Elizabeth Hall in Clanton.
“This is the first year we are trying this event, but we thought it would be good for people who want to have their pets’ photo taken with Santa,” Humane Society Board Secretary Katherine Reece said. “It is cute and unique, and there aren’t many places that offer you the option to have your pet pose with Santa.”
The event is open to the public, and picture packages with Santa start at $20 for an 8×10 photo.
Reece said children can also have their photos taken with Santa, and picture packages will also be available.
“If people want pictures of their pets and children with Santa, we will have that option as well,” Reece said.
Savannah Crumpton with Savannah’s Photography will be volunteering her time to take the photos at the event.
Reece said there will also be a “Santa Land” gift shop at the event where individuals can purchase small items for Christmas gifts.
Local artist Diana Hiott will also be at the event selling 100 limited edition prints she created for dog lovers.
The prints will be available for $25 each, Reece said.
All proceeds from the “Santa Paws” event will benefit the Humane Society.
“It costs a lot of money to run a shelter,” Reece said. “It is a very expensive organization, and every little bit counts.”
Reece said the community has stepped up to help the shelter with recent needs such as lack of dog food for the animals.
“Word got out that we needed dog food, and it was unbelievable how people stepped up to help us,” Reece said. “We have been getting bags of dog food delivered to us from all over the country. It has truly been amazing.”
Reece said anyone planning to attend the “Santa Paws” with a pet should have the pet on a leash.
Elizabeth Hall is located next door to MorLyn’s Fine Jewelry, Gifts & Antiques.
