Prayer concerns: Bobbie and Earl Giles, Kim Crowe, Linda Sullivan, Chris Cleckley, Nanett Fricke, Eli Jackson, Josh Hayes, Jean Varden, Peggy Hucks, Roger Minor family, Kenny Wyatt, Deleane, Buddy, those in the hospitals and nursing homes, spoken and unspoken requests, and the lost who do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Pastor Bro. Jeff Carroll’s text comes from 1 Corinthians 10:14-33 and titled “It Is Not What You Eat.”

We all know “thou shalt not eat of the tree of good and evil” was one of the first commandments given to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. One of the last things people will be doing in the last days is eating, drinking and being merry. It is not what you eat that defiles the body but what comes out of your mouth in speech that defiles the body. Paul here in 1 Corinthians is clarifying the confusion over what to eat and what not to eat. Jewish people did not have any problem eating food that was sacrificed to God, but what was sacrificed to idols.

Taking the Holy Communion is an honor, us being able to be set free because of Jesus’ sacrifice on Calvary. There is a difference in the way you carry yourself out here in the world. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons (of the devil). Anyone or anything portrayed as a God trying to make you turn away from obeying the Lord is a demon of the devil.

You read right: There are demons all around us in our everyday life. Paul tells us all things are lawful for us, but not in our best interest, or good for us and do not edify the Lord. Let no one seek his own, but the well-being of others. We need to know that the only thing between us as Christians and the lost unbeliever is the grace of God unto salvation, which does not by any means give us the right to judge. God has delivered us so we are not judged by another man’s conscience. Whether you eat or drink (live your life) whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Paul tells us just as he pleases all men in all things, not seeking his own profit, but the profit of many that they may be saved. We are not here to be an occult or a social club; our main focus is to help lead others to Christ. Glorify God, not men or ourselves. We call others “friend” in life, but if we do not share the gospel with them, then we are at fault for the lost going to hell. It is not what we eat or what we do for our flesh but what we do for Jesus and others to lead them to Christ.

Mountain Springs Church

Services started with Bro. Kenneth leading the church in the following hymns: “I’ll Fly Away,” “The Sweetest Song I Know,” “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow” and “I Want to Know More About My Lord.”

Bro. Ashley Bice gave a devotion from Romans 7:18 and Philippians 2:12-13. We were all born into sin and we should strive daily to overcome the brokenness of sin.

After Sunday School, Bro. Kenneth led the church in the hymn “Victory in Jesus,” and Ricky and Sherrie Williams sang “He Went a Little Farther.”

Bro. Heath Vines preached from Psalms 33:12. We need to declare our dependence on God. We need to depend upon God’s salvation, his grace and his freedom.

Sunday night’s service began with Bro. Kenneth leading the church in the hymns “I’ll Be Listening,” “I’d Rather Be an Old Time Christian” and “This World Is Not My Home.”

Bro. Kenneth gave a devotion from Psalms 46:1. God will always be our refuge and our strength. One day soon he will call his children home.

Bro. Heath preached from II Corinthians 4:1-7. If we do what God has called us to do, we will be pleasing in the sight of God.
