Willie Jean Northcutt Martin

Willie Jean Northcutt Martin, 91, of Jemison, passed away Aug. 18 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.
She was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Lester Northcutt and the late Ferrell Eugene Ellison Northcutt.
Martin was a seamstress in the textile industry.
She was a graduate of Jemison High School class of 1940.
She was a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and former Worthy Matron of Eastern Star.
For 23 years, “Mama Jean” was a teacher’s aide at The Mitchell Center in Calera.
Surviving are her daughters, Dianne M. Childress of Thorsby; Beverly M. Popwell (Phillip) of Clanton; sons, James C. Martin (Donna) of Alabaster; William Charles Martin (Terry) of Alabaster; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.C. Martin; daughter, Jacque M. Jacob (Leslie); granddaughter, Miss Kristie Carol Childress; granddaughter, Miss Holly Elizabeth Popwell and grandson, Phillip Martin Popwell.
Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 19 at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Services will be held Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Edwards officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Cemetery in Jemison.
