Clanton’s City Council held two public hearings at its meeting Monday.
The first hearing was to give residents a chance to offer input about the city applying for a Community Development Block Grant.
Though no final decision was reached about what project the grant would be for, officials have discussed a second stage of sewer system rehabilitation in the West End community.
The second hearing was about rezoning property at 301 First St. N. from residential to business. The property is connected to the site of the ALFA insurance building.
No residents offered opinions on either topic, and the measures were approved.
In other business, the council:
•Gave the city’s fire and police chiefs permission to sign a permit application for an event, including a fireworks show, on June 20 sponsored by McKinnon Toyota Nissan.
•Extended an agreement with Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging for the operation of the Clanton Senior Center off Enterprise Road for the next fiscal year.
•Accepted the resignation of Richard Quincy as supervisor of the city’s beautification department. Quincy resigned from the position because of personal reasons but will remain an employee in the department. Betty Easterling was approved as the temporary supervisor, and the position’s availability will be posted within.
•Denied a request from a landowner to de-annex city property located near Caver Street in Lomax.
•Heard from Councilman Bobby Cook, who commended the city’s parks and recreation employees for their work in maintaining the youth baseball facilities at Clanton City Park during a recent tournament.
