Billingsley advances; Jemison splits; CCHS, Thorsby and Verbena fall in Round 1 (updated)

Billingsley advanced to the second round of the Class 1A state baseball playoffs with two wins at Verbena on Saturday, 12-8 and 11-4.
The visiting Bears used multi-hit games from Thomas Nichols, Mason Friday, Tyler Powell, Kendall Elrod, Hunter Sanders and Jarrett Acreman to take a Game 1 victory.
One of Nichols’ two hits was a triple, while Sanders went 4-for-5 with five RBI.
Nichols was the winning pitcher, surrendering two runs in five innings pitched.
Dalton Davis went 3-for-3 in Game 2 in support of Friday, who allowed four runs in six innings pitched.
Billingsley (18-9) will travel to Maplesville for Round 2 of the playoffs beginning April 25.
Jemison split two games at Oak Grove on Saturday to force a decisive Game 3 at 4 p.m. Monday in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
The Panthers fell in Game 1 of the best-of-three series, 1-0, but rebounded to take Game 2, 12-3.
Chilton County High School was eliminated from the Class 5A playoffs with two losses to Briarwood Christian, 10-2 and 4-3.
Thorsby was eliminated from the Class 3A playoffs with two losses at Sipsey Valley, 10-0 and 10-4.
