With all roads and bridges in Chilton County currently closed due to ice and snow, county Emergency Management Agency Director Bill Collum said there are currently no reports of stranded motorists in the county.

“We are just trying to keep the traffic moving,” Collum said. “There were some areas where traffic was bottlenecked but at this time there are no reports of anyone stranded on the roadways.”

Collum said hotel rooms in Chilton County have filled up quickly with only a few rooms left as of Tuesday evening.

“I have heard there are a few rooms left in Prattville which is our major concern,” Collum said. “If people get stranded on the interstate we want to be able to have a place they can come and stay for the night. I tried to contact the Alabama Red Cross today to get a representative sent to Chilton County but they are unable to travel to us.”

Collum said a shelter is available at 612 Second Avenue North, next to Peoples Southern Bank in Clanton for anyone needing a place to stay the night on Tuesday.

“We don’t want anyone stranded,” Collum said. “We are trying to cover our bases and if the Red Cross is unable to get to us we will do the best we can and set up a shelter ourselves.”

Chilton County E-911 Director Dan Wright said his office handled 86 wreck calls as of 5 p.m.

Wright said he wasn’t aware of any serious injuries from the wrecks.
