Tickets still on sale for 2014 Chamber Banquet

Tickets are still available for the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet set for Friday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $25 per person and will include dinner, awards and entertainment with “The Songs of Patsy Cline” performed by Emily Kay Herring, Assistant Professor in Musical Theater Voice at The University of Alabama.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mike Robertson said the cutoff date is Tuesday, Jan. 14 at noon in order to get a headcount for the caterer to know how much food to prepare.

In previous years, the banquet has been held at Alabama Power Company.

With even more room at the CCPAC, the banquet could accommodate as many as, or more than, 250 people, which Robertson said is the Chamber’s goal for attendance.

“I think we have a real solid chance to make that,” Robertson said. “Typically, we sell about 175 tickets, but this year, we think we’ve got a real shot at 250 tickets. We have more room than that—it’s whether we can sell them or not.”

Robertson gave high praise for Herring, who will fill the entertainment portion of the evening with songs from American country music singer Patsy Cline.

Herring has performed leading roles in national tours of musicals including “The Sound of Music,” “Ragtime,” “Kiss Me Kate” and “Godspell.”

Herring has taught voice at Birmingham Southern College, American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York and her private studio.

Robertson said he had heard positive things about Herring and attended one of her performances in Columbiana before the Chamber booked her for the 2014 banquet.

“She’s a wonderful person, and the audience will like her,” Robertson said. “She’s delightful.”

The Chamber will also announce the recipients of its Ambassador of the Year, Business of the Year and Community Spirit awards.

Robertson confirmed the Chamber has selected a recipient for the Community Spirit Award this year.

“We try to do that only when we have a really worthy candidate,” he said.

The Clanton Conference and Performing Arts Center is located on the Jefferson State Community College Chilton-Clanton Campus off Lay Dam Road near Interstate 65 Exit 212.

Tickets for the banquet are available at the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce, 500 Fifth Ave. N. in Clanton, and at The Clanton Advertiser, 1109 Seventh St. N. in Clanton across from Winn-Dixie.
