God, we praise you for the many blessings you bestow upon us, and we ask your healing blessings on the many who are in need, whether fighting long-term problems, or the many viruses and colds going around right now. We thank you for the opportunity to come together in celebrations of life. We thank you for our pastor and his family. We also ask your blessings on our pastor’s wife and Korean-born daughter as they travel to Korea. Amen.

Our scripture lesson on Sunday came from Luke 18:9-14, which contains the parable of the Pharisee and the publican. As the preacher prayed that we all be humble, it was heartwarming to hear a small child lean over and ask, “What does humble mean?” Out of the mouths of babes! We all need lessons on being humble.

Bro. Phil told about a large billboard in Texas that showed Jesus, all tattooed. While the words were such as “addicted,” one would have a strong first impression. The billboard went on to direct you to a website for JesusTattoo.org. Upon viewing this site, you see how all of our shortcomings can be handed over to Christ. We invite you to check it out.

Calvary Independent Baptist Church

We want to send out a special thanks to everyone who made our Fall Harvest a success this past Saturday evening. We would also like to thank everyone for attending our regular services Sunday. Sunday morning services included a message from John 10:1-18 about Jesus, the Good Shepherd. God opens doors of opportunity unto us, sometimes for salvation unto the lost, and again for service unto the saved. God opens a door that no man can shut, but if we let that opportunity pass us by and God has shut that door, no man can open that door. We need to take the opportunity to follow the Good Shepherd, as we can know his voice and hear his call.

Sunday evening’s service included a message from 1 Corinthians 1:1-9 about the church that God is calling Calvary to be—not a church whose main focus is to attract people, but a church whose main focus is to attract God. We preach and teach the written word of God, not trying to make the Bible relevant unto man, but rather to see men made relevant unto the Bible. We are not called to change the word of God; we are called to change the hearts of men. It is God’s will today that all men be saved and come unto the knowledge of the truth. We live in a time where there are many, if not most, who love the pleasures of this world more than they love God.
