Although snow flurries could materialize in the area Wednesday morning, weather conditions are expected to be clear Thanksgiving Day and the rest of the week.

Unlike Tuesday, the forecast for Wednesday–Friday contains no chance of rain.

“We are expecting all of the rain and possible rain and snow showers [to] be over with,” said Meteorologist Aaron Gleason with the National Weather Service in Calera.

Wednesday’s forecast includes a chance of flurries before 9 a.m. with a high near 38 degrees, according to the NWS. A northwest wind is expected to reach 10–20 miles per hour during the day.

Wednesday night should be clear with a low near 24 degrees and a northwest wind 5–10 miles per hour becoming light in the evening.

Lows on Thursday morning will hover in the mid-20s, while highs will probably not exceed the mid-40s, Gleason said.

Winds out of the north will be light, most likely no more than 5 miles per hour.

Gleason said a large storm system would impact the entire Appalachian Mountain chain Wednesday, so anyone traveling along the East Coast, from Georgia all the way up to Maine, should be mindful of the weather.

Snow showers and sleet are likely, mainly before 8 a.m. Wednesday, with a 60-percent chance of rain.

“That could definitely cause some trouble if you’re heading that way,” Gleason said. “Otherwise, around here, [it’s] just cold. We’re not expecting any weather impacts for the Wednesday-Thursday-Friday time frame for us.”

Gleason said Friday temperatures are expected to be slightly higher, with lows of 26–29 degrees and highs in the mid-50s instead of the 40s.

Friday’s forecast contains no chance of rain.

“About this time last year, it was definitely warmer,” Gleason said. “Highs were generally in the upper 50s, low 60s. Lows were around the upper 30s and lower 40s. I expect that we’ll be quite a bit cooler on Thanksgiving than last year, only reaching into the mid-40s.”
