The Maplesville Town Council approved two personnel changes for the street and garbage department at a meeting Monday.

The council approved Superintendent Kenny Barrett’s recommendation to bring on temporary employee Darrell Goodwin Jr. as a full-time employee.

Goodwin has completed his 60-day probationary period of employment with the town.

The council also approved Barrett’s recommendation to give Goodwin a 25-cent raise on his current wages of $8 per hour.

Barrett then presented the council with the idea to hire an hourly emergency garbage worker to help him fulfill department duties when other workers are sick or must miss work for some reason.

“I’m not finding out until 7 o’clock in the morning that one of my guys isn’t going to be there,” Barrett said. “I need an extra set of hands.”

Council members approved the hourly emergency garbage worker position and a pay rate of $67.70 per day.
