Clanton Police have identified suspects in a string of recent burglaries.

The police department responded to two residential burglaries and nine reports of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle on April 19 in the Battles Circle and Glendale communities.

CPD detectives recovered some stolen property and other evidence that led them to a group of suspects.

“We don’t have enough to charge them as of yet, but it appears to be another group of teenagers,” Capt. David Clackley said in a release. “If anyone has purchased items such as GPS systems, iPods or any other items that they believe to be stolen, please contact my office at 755-1194 ext. 311.”

One of the suspects was arrested last week on unrelated charges and taken to the Shelby County Detention Facility.

Clanton Police arrested a 16-year-old on May 1 for a separate set of car burglaries, in the Yellowleaf Road and Park Drive area and a separate set of vehicles was also burglarized at Chilton County High School

CPD has reported 37 car burglaries in the last 30 days.

According to information obtained during the investigation, the groups of juveniles—believed to be from Dallas County—walk the streets at night looking for unsecured vehicles or property.

“We are adding extra patrols in the neighborhoods, but we need the public’s help,” Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell said. “Please lock and secure your vehicles, keep serial numbers in a safe place for property of value, don’t leave guns in cars and please report suspicious activity. That’s what we are here for, and we will check it out.

“If it doesn’t look right, it probably isn’t.”

Anyone with information about any of these cases should call CPD at 755-1194.

The department offers security checks for residents going out of town. Those interested should call Capt. Freeman Ellison at 755-1194 ext. 304.
