The Chilton County Humane Society will host its second annual “Dottie Day” May 18 at Goosepond Park.
A 5K race, or “Dottie Dash,” will start at 8 a.m. and events throughout the day will include a pet parade, a cutest/ugliest dog contest, kiddie games, pet adoption fair, food and entertainment.
A new event this year will be a 5K walk around Goosepond Park in conjunction with the 5K race for those who aren’t interested in running.
Humane society board member president Jenny Millwee said anyone wanting to pre-register for the race and walk will have up until May 16 to register online at www.active.com with Dottie Dash as the keyword for $25 or racers can register the day of the race for $30.
“This is the second year for us to have this event and we are really excited about it,” Millwee said. “We hope to bring awareness to people to spay and neuter their pets.”
Millwee said the name Dottie comes from a Dalmatian costume the humane society has for a volunteer to dress up as Dottie for the day.
“We actually have two volunteers who have offered to dress up like Dottie this year so they will be swapping out the costume throughout the day,” Millwee said.
All the proceeds raised at the event will go toward helping those who can’t financially afford to spay and neuter their pets.
Millwee said animals will also be on site at the event for anyone interested in adopting a pet.
“We will have some dogs and cats that will be spayed or neutered so if someone wants to adopt a pet at the event they will be able to do so that day,” Millwee said.

Registration forms for the race can be filled out online at www.active.com or at the humane society.
