With more damage from last week’s tornadoes being revealed every day, more and more help is needed as the rebuilding process starts. Listed are more ways Chilton County residents can show their support, get involved and lend a helping hand to the victims and counties affected.

United Way provides way to give back

Chilton County United Way and American Red Cross have partnered and will be accepting monetary donations for those affected by the Alabama tornadoes.

Donations can be delivered to Bobby Martin’s office at the Chilton County Courthouse during operating business hours.

“We will get the donations to the areas affected by the tornadoes, and those who ere in need of assistance,” said United Way Board Chairman Curtis Smith.

Yard sale for relief

Tyler Mims, local paramedic and captain of East Chilton Fire and Rescue, his wife Tiffany and with the help from the fire department are putting together a community yard sale to support those in need.

The yard sale will be held May 13-14 from 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. on County Road 41 located behind the EMA building at the Mims’ residence.

So far futons, refrigerators, dishwashers, chairs, microwaves, clothes and baby toys have been donated.

Those who want to make a monetary donation can make checks or money orders payable to the East Chilton Fire Department.

All profits and unsold items will be directly donated to a valid charity foundation.

APSO, American Red Cross and Salvation Army join forces

The Alabama Power Service Organization, also known as APSO, is collecting items for storm relief efforts in conjunction with the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.

The American Red Cross and Salvation Army in Montgomery cover and will distribute items into Autauga, Barbour, Butler, Chilton, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Pike, Crenshaw, Bullock, Dallas, Perry, Marengo and Wilcox counties.

Items requested: non-perishable food items, bottled water, baby formula, diapers, etc., hygiene products, new underwear, school supplies and recreational items for children, flashlights, can openers, laundry detergent, cleaning products, paper plates and cups, items for seniors like denture cream and Depends.

Drop off donated items at the Alabama Power Office in Clanton located at 2030 7th St. S by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 6.

The items will be distributed this weekend to storm victims across the state.

Clanton Church of Christ accepting donations

Donations are being accepted for the tornado victims at the Clanton Church of Christ at 1111 Lay Dam Road. Collection hours will be from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Saturday. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, call 205-299-6777.

Liberty Hill disaster relief and distribution center

Liberty Hill Baptist Church will be a collection and distribution center for Disaster Relief for our fellow Alabamians affected by the storms last week.

The church is partnering with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions in this effort.

At this time they are open for collections from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. This may change in the near future depending on response.

Some items needed included: bottled water, sports drinks, peanut butter and jelly, tarps, individually wrapped snacks, sugar-free snacks for diabetics, toiletries and dental hygiene items, toilet paper, first aid items, coolers, diapers, wipes, formula, sunscreen and Chapstick.

Deliver the items to 5800 County Road 37 in Clanton.
