On Sunday morning, a men’s group sang “I Can’t Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand.” Bro. Steve brought a message from Hosea 6:1-3, using the phrase “Going on to Know the Lord.” What does it mean to know the Lord? It is a very worthy pursuit to learn the scriptural characteristics of God, his graciousness, his redemption, his mercy and his grace. We are giving homage to his name, and reverence to his holiness when we attempt to know him better. We can’t truly know him unless we accept him as our Lord and Savior and are born again. Learning to know him better requires following the Lord in faith and, with the help of the Holy Spirit, letting him be the pattern for our lives. It is not easy, and it requires perseverance. When we are diligent with Bible study, faithful in our prayer lives and in sharing with others, a casual relationship with God becomes a close fellowship. Let it be our desire to make an earnest effort to follow on in order to know the Lord.

In our evening service, Bro. Steve brought a message on the observance of the Lord’s Supper from 1 Corinthians 11:20-34. We should look back to the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord. Then we should look forward to the Lord’s return. We should look inward, examining and judging our hearts and lives, and making things right with the Lord. Following the message, our membership celebrated the observance of the Lord’s Supper, closing the service with a verse from “Blessed Be the Tie That Binds.”

Our pastor’s message came from Romans 8:1-8. Christians cannot practice sin. We know as long as we are in the human flesh, we will commit acts of sin, but the willful, deliberate practice of sinning is not at all compatible with Christ. A life given to Christ will endure the fiery darts of Satan, and will often fail, but we must remember that Christ died to take away sin; he provides the path of salvation, repentance and the awesome grace that is greater than all our sin.

As long as we live in the human body, there will be sin in our lives. The difference is that our souls are not sinning. They have been saved by God’s grace, and the soul will never die. Whosoever commits sin must be forgiven. This forgiveness is provided by the Cross of Christ. We must be born again to enter heaven. Born -again Christians walk in God’s spirit, but we can never know perfection until we enter the gates of heaven. We are so blessed to live under grace.

People who reject Christ follow false doctrines and will be pulled into this kind of false faith. Muslims believe in something that is not real. Our children’s futures depend on parents setting the example of exercising faith, staying in church to keep their hearts in tune with Christ and serving their fellow man.

Remember to pray for the Blalock family, Richard Mims, the Logan family, the Coburn family, Margaret Moore, Paul Brooks and our military men and women across the globe.

Next Sunday night, we will have Trunk-or-Treat for our children. Please bring candies and goodies, and participate in our wonderful kids program.

Wednesday nights are when our children practice their Christmas program. Please make sure your children are here.
