Chilton County schools closed early Friday because of the threat of severe weather, according to Superintendent of Education Dave Hayden.

All county schools closed at 1 p.m., as a weather system producing severe thunderstorms and possibly tornadoes makes it way across the state.

School related activities scheduled for after school Friday—including Jemison High School’s prom—were also been canceled.

The JHS prom will be held from 8-11 p.m. Saturday at the Jemison Municipal Complex, with senior leadout at 9 p.m.
