The Chilton County Arts Council has filed Articles of Incorporation and will be holding a public meeting on Sunday, April 10 at 2 p.m.

The meeting will be held to discuss bylaws, including membership fees and grants, how to compensate artists of all disciplines who are interested in offering classes and future plans.

“The public meeting is going to be important for anyone who is interested in contributing and teaching,” said group organizer Elizabeth Byrd. “I want craftsmen and artists to attend the meeting to present ways they can contribute.”

Earlier this year, Byrd set out to establish the arts council for the county. She has recently filed a 501(c)(3) IRS document that is currently pending to establish the organization as a nonprofit incorporation.

“Being incorporated makes us eligible to receive tax deductible donations,” said Byrd.

In addition to filing to become incorporated, the group has also taken other necessary steps to move forward with becoming a legitimate organization.

Daniel Spanier, a graphic designer, is working on the group’s official logo, and the organization is hoping to partner with the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce for this year’s Peach Jam.

“We’re planning events and bringing the arts to Chilton County,” said Byrd. “We’re just asking everyone to come to the meeting on Sunday because this will be an important time.”

Also, the council has been offered a permanent meeting space at the office of Robert Rash at 1004 Seventh St. S. on Highway 31, across the street from SunSouth-John Deere.
